I realize it’s Christmas, but as I was researching (I know …even on Christmas I’m thinking about advocating), lol something caught my attention. As I scroll through the many negative (and false I might add) articles, something catches my eye. ~
Withdrawals being reported by people, who suddenly stop taking antidepressants. The particular one they mentioned was Seroquel, which is a super common medication being prescribed to millions of people currently.
“The range of problems it causes in terms of deteriorating quality of life makes it not worth it,” said David Healy, a British psychiatrist who has written books on psychopharmacology. Healy says he prescribes Seroquel only for his most seriously ill patients “to be able to function.” Mind you a lot of doctors prescribe ‘off label’ meaning they prescribe thousands upon thousands of people antipsychotics for insomnia!!!
This in itself, is OUTRAGEOUS.
Thank GOD, I’m a mental health nurse who KNOWS these medications well; as I have administered them for years in psych wards. Because let me tell you, my jaw hit the floor when I was the one being prescribed Risperidone for sleep. I threw that prescription away so fast it’d make your head spin.
But, unfortunately we are understaffed as it is in state institutions, let alone anyone knowing the first thing about a psychotropic or what one is.
I hate to say it but most Americans, or people in general are ‘dumb’ or way too trusting with their doctors and our medical system. They think ‘oh they have a medical degree and I don’t’. Wrong. They have a medical degree, yet rarely use it outside of how the government wants them to.
My point? Well, my point is that we need to stop generalizing all withdrawals as being the same or dangerous, because in no way shape or form is a Kratom withdrawal causing permanent damage or changes to a person’s mind and body, like other kinds of withdrawals are, such as these withdrawals do from antipsychotics such as Seroquel. Not even close.
‘FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who has led the agency since May, previously advocated allowing manufacturers to promote uses of their products that the agency had not approved. Spokeswoman Stephanie Caccomo did not respond to questions about Gottlieb’s current position or concerns he might have about the off-label use of antipsychotics such as Seroquel. Nor would she say when the FDA will finish reviewing its policies and regulations for “manufacturer communications” about unapproved uses of approved medical products. The review began during the Obama administration; a public comment period was reopened for three months last year.’
‘In the meantime, a pill that medical experts say can cause diabetes, heart arrhythmia and potentially irreversible movement disorders continues to be prescribed to many Americans who are only seeking a good night’s sleep or less anxiety by day. Many are probably not aware that it is a drug originally aimed at the delusions and paranoia of schizophrenia.’https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/one-of-americas-most-popular-drugs–first-aimed-at-schizophrenia–reveals-the-issues-of-off-label-use/2018/03/28/78a538ca-1e27-11e8-b2d9-08e748f892c0_story.html
Even though Scott Gottlieb isn’t acting commissioner of the FDA anymore, he still ‘acts’ like it, leading in the shadows, their ridiculous crusade against Kratom. Their crusade ..full of lies within the media, to brainwash the public thus keep them further in the dark. This is known as the FDA’S disinformation campaign.
Even though we won our last battle, with regard to the World Health Organization determining no critical review for Kratom (due to insufficient evidence), it’s very odd the latest development concerning the FDA. They haven’t acknowledged the World Health Organization’s decision yet. In fact, they have tried making it look as though they still have a chance at weighing in on all of it. Maybe it’s another ploy to try and trick the public.
However, the truth is that this will have been their third attempt that’s FAILED by the FDA to try and ban Kratom.
FDA, You LOST and this should speak volumes to the pubic about how safe Kratom really and truly IS. It’s not being critically reviewed because there’s no need for it, because Kratom is safe and isn’t harming or killing anyone.
Fifteen to 20 million (or more) Americans take Kratom and none of them are dying or having permanent damage from consuming, much less withdrawals! Kratom is a plant and hasn’t been touched by Big Pharma or the FDA ..and that’s why it’s safe!
Unlike the FDA approved medications you are currently taking, especially antipsychotics for sleep, Kratom doesn’t cause withdrawals such as permanent heart problems, arrhythmias, tardive dyskinesia, or diabetes.
Kratom is mild. It’s the human being who’s the most dangerous in this equation; if they’re constantly lying or completely ignorant as to what they’re consuming. In fact, a lot of people don’t even understand the conditions they have for which they are taking something FOR.
Knowledge is power. But, I do believe many find ignorance to be bliss, which I completely have no respect for. It’s people like that who use ignorance as an excuse to not be held accountable. I guarantee those are the ones who turn against this plant.
Antipsychotics can have serious risks.
Many people who start taking an antipsychotic drug, stop because of side effects:
- Dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and a higher risk of falls and injuries.
- Weight gain.
- High cholesterol.
- Muscle twitches, tremors, and spasms. These may not go away even when the drug is stopped.
- Blood clots. These can lead to serious problems and death if not treated.https://www.choosingwisely.org/patient-resources/treating-sleep-problems/
‘According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), adverse drug reactions are the fourth leading cause of death in America. Reactions to prescription and over-the-counter medications kill far more people annually than all illegal drug use combined.’ ~ Bitter Pill
FYI: Antipsychotics are a BLESSING!!!! However, only for SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS ..such as INSANITY or Psychosis or Psychosis brought on by mental illness. For, the benefit outweighs the risk. Unfortunately, they haven’t discovered anything that treats psychosis that doesn’t produce such dangerous and harmful side- effects and withdrawals. But, this is exactly the reality of the situation. Currently, all psychotropics can and usually produce harmful, life-changing, permanent side-effects and withdrawals that can be permanent as well.
If you have a legitimate mental illness and are taking medications for it, I applaud you. Please by no means stop EVER, without your doctor’s consent. Mental health has come a long way. Keep up the great work!!!

5 thoughts on “Stigma Surrounding Withdrawals ~”
I can back you up 100 percent. I was given amitriptyline, an tricyclic antidepressant, to attempt to deal with the tramadol withdrawals before I found and started kratom. From the science I can find on that particular drug, it’s less apt to produce dependence than other antipsychotics but it still can. And you are definitely not alone, I never break from advocating either. Even on christmas, somebody somewhere is writing an anti kratom post. I’m going to spread this one everywhere because I think you are right. Antipsychotics can benefit people but calling it “discontinuation syndrome” instead of “drug withdrawal” doesn’t change what it is. That’s what wikipedia reports pharmaceutical companies who market antidepressants call it, to avoid the stigma, and it comes around full circle

What a joke ‘discontinuation syndrome’ that makes me so mad bc it’s another way for them to deceive the public and hide their ugly truth about what they approve & prescribe but when it comes to Kratom they sure don’t use that term.
